Contoh: 

Sebuah segitiga dibahagikan kepada tiga bahagian yang sama besar. 

Sebahagian daripada segitiga itu telah dilorekkan.

Kita menulis pecahan berlorek itu sebagai satu pertiga, 1/3. 

Sebahagian daripada kumpulan segitiga enam telah dilorekkan. 

Kita menulis pecahan berlorek itu sebagai satu perempat, 1/4.

Tulis pecahan bahagian berlorek.

Pecahan ialah nombor yang mewakili sebahagian daripada satu benda atau sekumpulan benda. Contoh pecahan adalah seperti berikut:

Sebiji kek dipotong kepada 6 bahagian yang sama besar.

Kek itu sekarang ada enam bahagian. 

Untuk menulis pecahan yang diwakili oleh setiap bahagian kek ialah satu perenam 1/6. 

Satu disebut sebagai pengangka dan enam disebut dikenali sebagai penyebut.
